Asda was majority owned by Walmart since 1999 who then sold most of it to EG Group and private equity firm TDR Capital in October 2020. Walmart retains a stake in Asda, a seat on the board and “an ongoing commercial relationship”. Bonus fun fact: when Stuart Rose was appointed in November 2021, he became the supermarket’s first dedicated chairman in more than 20 years!
