    Hi all

I was interested to read about Morrisons emerging victorious after a lengthy standoff with Asda owner EG group to buy convenience store chain McColl’s out of administration today. It seems that Morrisons will be rebranding these stores to ‘Morrisons Daily’ and expanding their repertoire of smaller, more expensive stores.

Given that convenience thrived during the pandemic as people spent more time at home and some were avoiding what they perceived as busy supermarkets, do you think this is a huge move by Morrisons towards increasing their market share?

On the other hand, it’s arguable that shoppers will be willing to travel further to save during the cost of living crisis, not to mention integrating around 1000 stores may be challenging. However, it seems that Morrisons will be able to drive lower prices than McColl’s could due to their improved economies of scale.

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has thoughts on this!
